Mark commented: 鈥淏ecause John deliberately refused to be play the same part twice (if he could either avoid it or afford not to), it was stupidly surprising to meet the actual person, which we did when he sat in conversation with me, surrounded by students. Although he devoted himself to portraying the people he represented, he treated acting as a job and so was brisk and matter-of-fact about what needed to be done. He knew he was blessed with a voice you could recognise the moment he鈥檚 spoken a few words.鈥
